Africa - August 2025

Dear friends,

I have arrived in Nigeria and I am well. I am in a religious house (NO) where all religious who need to spend the night after their flight come. They don’t care who you are. If you pay, it’s fine.

Of course, it is quite different from Canada.

We drove in the city of Lagos and it is an absolute chaos, with cars driving in all directions, people selling things in the middle of the road, honking everywhere. Quite interesting.

Overall, the temperature is good right now: 24 degrees at the most. Much easier to tolerate than Trinidad.

I had my first experience with Nigeria at the airport. I was taken in the front of the line for customs. Airport personnel asking for blessings everywhere.

Then a group of three nice people took my luggage and accompanied me outside the airport. They were chasing away people who were trying to sell me things or insistant taxi drivers. When my chauffeur arrived (the brother in law of Fr Mbadugha), I found out that they did that because they wanted money. The chauffeur gave them their due and told me : this is the way it works here. Good to know.

Father Mbadugha (Father Francis) has been delayed in the traffic. That is why his brother in law came instead of him. He is due to arrive here any minute.

God bless you all!

Be at peace, everything is fine.
